Hobo Day 2012 and Ground Breaking Ceremony
Dear SAE Alumni, Little Sister Alumnae, Parents and Friends,
I am sure that you would join me in asking, “Where did the summer go?” With the leaves changing color and the start of a new semester at SDSU the annual ritual of Hobo Day can’t be far behind. This year’s 100th Anniversary Hobo Day celebration is Saturday October 27. As is our tradition, Sigma Alpha Epsilon continues to make this an important alumni weekend. This year we have the added excitement of the official ground breaking celebration for the new SAE House on the SDSU Greek Village campus. The months and months of meetings, discussions and planning have led us to this historic date as we move from planning to building.
We have a full day scheduled to honor not only Hobo Day but this historic event for Sigma Alpha Epsilon at South Dakota State University. If you have not attended Hobo Day for a while this is the perfect year to gather family or friends and make the trip to Brookings. Below is the schedule of events that we have planned for the day. This year we will start the new tradition of having some of our Hobo Day activities on the lot of our new home.
Schedule
Welcome Breakfast- 8 - 9:30 AM: At the new house lot on 20th Avenue just north of 6th Street. We will have a tent setup near the new lot with plenty of parking available. We will be serving coffee, juice and rolls to get your day started. We will also be offering a shuttle service to bring you to the parade viewing area and then back for the Ground Breaking Ceremony and lunch.
100th Anniversary Hobo Day Parade- 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM:
We will be assembling near our traditional location at 7th St. and Medary Ave.
Ground Breaking Ceremony- 11:30 AM:
Join SAE Alumni, Building Committee members, the SDSU Greek Community and SDSU Dignitaries as we officially break ground for the new SAE House. This is a historic event for Sigma Alpha Epsilon and the first fraternity house to be built at SDSU since the mid- 1970s.
Lunch- 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, Building Site in Greek Village.
We will be serving lunch under the large tent. There will be room for everyone so plan to grab something before or after the ground breaking ceremony and before heading out the football game. We will be joined by the women of Alpha Xi Delta, our new neighbors at Greek Village.
SDSU Football Game- 2 PM:
The SDSU Football team takes on Youngstown State
Hobo Day Evening Dinner- Social 6 PM (With Beverages), Dinner 6:30 PM. Hobo Day Gallery, Student Union.
Join us for an evening of celebration as we close this historic day. THIS IS A CASUAL AFFAIR (like come from the game casual) with a short program followed by a panel discussion where you can ask the House Corporation and Building Committee questions about the building process.
